Energy Vampires

This post has nothing to do with brooding teenagers and their undead pointy-toothed ‘vegetarian’ lovers. No blood will be sucked either, just energy!

I started using the term “Energy Vampire” after it came into my awareness that some people I know literally suck the life out of me. Bleed me dry of energy. They leave me feeling exhausted, depleted and hung over even though no alcohol had been consumed. I’d wake up the morning after feeling like I’d been run over by a truck. Ever had that feeling after a meet up with certain friends? I’m sure we all have them in our circle.

Please don’t get me wrong I use the term Energy Vampire with the kindest of endearment. My energy hungry friends are lovely that is why they are my friends. It is natural for me to attract people who need rescuing. I like rescuing people and looking after them. Get them out of the holes there’re in and back on track. It’s part of who I am. I’m here to help, to heal & to give. I am happy too but now on my terms.

On my current path of cleaner living I’ve found my intuition has been enhanced, my non-physical senses are sharper and my light is brighter. Before I became aware of this amazing knock on effect I’d created I’d get sucked into other people’s chaos and in turn come away just as depleted as them. My Energy Vampires always have something wrong with them, you might have a cold but this friend has flu, a sore throat and pneumonia! Get the idea? There’s always a drama going on bigger & better than anyone else’s. That’s cool, that’s life. They need to down load, get advise and reassurance that everything will be ok. They want to talk, a lot, without coming up for air or letting anyone else have a breath. My mistake used to be I’d give them that reassurance & support by personalizing. That’s how my energy was lost.

We’ve all done it. If someone is telling a story and looking for some advice the easiest thing to do is say ‘yes me too, that happened to me!’ Instantly you feel like you’re supporting them as you’ve been through the same thing. You feel you can give honest advice because you have felt their pain yourself. There it is. The moment you personalize you do feel their pain, you take it right off them and into you. That’s why you feel so hungover the next day as you are now carrying that friends pain yourself.

Energy transfers happen that easily. As soon as you say ‘me too’ an invisible cord (an etheric cord) with a big fat fishing hook on the end shoots out of your friend and attaches right inside of you. Hooks in. Just like an electric cable this cord allows your friend to suck your precious energy from you, filling up their tank with you kind, loving and happy energy. It’s a two way street of course, when we give we also receive. In this situation the giver gets a bum deal as you receive back their pain and misery. These cords stay attached too, they can tap in at anytime even when you’re not together, especially when they are thinking about you and vise versa.

How do you stop these cords from getting attached & your energy sucked? Simple. Listen and do not personlise. You can give a lot of support without even saying a word by listening. If they ask you ‘what do you think?’ turn it back around to them, ‘what do you think you should do?’ Get them to try and figure it out for themselves. Yes they have come to you for advice the best advice you can give is to get them to figure it out for themselves. They will feel so liberated knowing they had the power to sort themselves out rather than just be told what to do by you. We are all different anyway, what you might work for you might not work some someone else. We all have this power of knowing inside of us we just need to access it & trust it. It’s so easy to be influenced by other people’s thoughts and actions. This is not being authentic to our true selves.

Really start to notice how you feel when you stop personalizing. Do you feel lighter? Less oppressed? It takes practice; it is hard I fall off the wagon too from time to time. The words ‘me too’ fly out too very at times. It doesn’t have to. If you are listening, being still within yourself it becomes easy to stay neutral. No cords will attach, no social hangovers will occur. If you feel a cord has attached, cut it. Imagine a big pair of scissors and snip it away. Send it into the universe to be taken care of.

Give it a go this week. You will be a much stronger, supportive friend and keep hold of your precious energy. Lead from your heart and send out loving, supporting thoughts to your friends and everyone will reap the rewards.

Love & light,

Seren xx

Office Oasis

It may come as a shock to some people but most of us spend more time in the office than we do at home, waking hours that is. This is very true for myself when I compare the hours ‘out of the house’ to the hours spent at home the former outweighs the latter. Not that I mind I like my jobs but spending so much time in the office week to week I felt the urge to create a nice space in which to spend all this time. A relaxed atmosphere is so much better for production. Dark, dingy cubicles can really make a person feel down. Offices don’t have to be sterile. We are all unique individuals, let’s pull some personal into our day and office environments.

I have recently moved desks to sit alone area. Even more reason to bring a little me into the space as there is no one else to be offended by my personal touches. We do have a ‘clean desk’ policy which means clutter should be kept to a minimum. This is a very good idea as clutter on your desk is counter productive. Cluttered desk, cluttered mind. Widescreen monitors come in handy for that keeping my personal items invisible to anyone walking past.

To make my desk more homely and balance the different energies bouncing around I have a number of personal items at hand. Firstly, my USB Himalayan Salt lamp which is perfect to have around computers and electrical items. Salt lamps reduce fatigue, improve concentration and balance electro magnetic pollution. They also bring in moisture to dry, air conditioned environments by ionizing the air.

Crystals of course are a major feature on both my home and office desks. I always have a clear quartz point and my Rose Quartz Goddess on my desk. Others come and go depending on what I need at the time. This week my usual clear quartz is at home for cleansing so I have my smaller Atlantean core crystal and Tibetan Smoky quartz here.

Greenery is important to me as well, bringing the outdoors in doors. With a lack of natural light where I sit some plants might get sad so I opted for a Bamboo. They are super hardy as well and don’t take much looking after. Placed on the far corner of my desk it deflects any negative energy that might come into the space before it hits me. Plants are brilliant at bringing in extra oxygen to a room. They can defuse harmful chemicals from printer toners and paints. Very handy for me as I’m in close proximity to the print room.

I keep my colour therapy cards on my desk too. My chosen card for the day sits in front of me to infuse it’s healing energy.

Some health & safety regulations may not like my next item. An oil burner. It sits in a safe place where it is in no danger of the candle being knocked over. I use soy wax melts with a gentle fragrance that uplifts the area. One day I will invest in a proper electric diffuser so I can use essential oils for extra holistic benefits. I used to burn incense sticks but that didn’t go down well with my colleagues, plus they are messy. Never leave candles burning unattended!

A well-stocked itunes of relaxing music, meditations and some 90’s cheesy pop songs is a must. Noise cancelling ears phones are handy as well. Block out the rest of the office and drift away to whatever music you’re into. My job doesn’t require me to answer phones that often so I’m free to plug in and listen to music as I feel. Helps get the creative juices flowing too.

Finally to combat tired, fatigued shoulders I have a lupin heat pack on hand. Two minutes in the microwave gives me an hour of heat pack action. Added bonus it makes me sit straighter or else it falls off!

Is there anything you have in your office that brings a piece of ‘home’ or relaxation into your day? Share with us in the comments below.

Crystal Healing – Blue Apatite

I’m very excited to introduce you too crystal of the week. Blue Apatite is a very positive crystal with multiple uses. I was attracted to it primarily for it’s association with the Throat Chakra to enhance communications. My part job as Bikram Yoga teacher requires me to pretty much talk non-stop for 90 minutes. Any help I can get in assisting the words to flow is greatly appreciated.

My first piece of Blue Apatite I used to tuck into my pocket and carry around with me. This causes all sorts of problems especially when you forget it’s there and it falls out on the floor or worse, goes through the wash. Ideally Apatite should be worn against the skin, especially over the throat chakra to improve communications. Then I got the idea I should purchase a Blue Apatite pendant.

I don’t usually like buying crystals online, I like to pick them up & feel if they are a good fit. Connect with them and let them choose me. You don’t know for sure how they have been mined either online. I tried the local crystal shops but nothing grabbed me so I hit up Etsy. I like supporting small business artisans and the pieces on there I felt were made with love, and not mass-produced in factories.

I found it! The pendant I knew should be mine. It was set on a silver bail reminiscent of a Celtic knot with a neoprene cord. Perfect for the hot room, neoprene won’t go skanky when soaked in sweat. A stunning piece, had crafted by Charlotte Taylor.

Blue Apatite isn’t just for communications it enhances creativity and awakens the inner self. If attuned to the third eye it can improve concentration. A good piece to have if you’re studying. Another handy benefit, if made into an elixir (watch this space more on elixirs later in the series!) can help suppress hunger.

I got rather attached to my Apatite. I think at one point I was wearing it a lot for teaching. Just like a security blanket. You never want to get too dependent on anything this can cause all sorts problems. My Apatite had a great way of letting me know this. When I was carrying out over the tile floor for it’s monthly cleanse, it slipped and fell. On the tiles. A small piece broke of one of the edges. I was gutted. Can you imagine if the whole pendant has smashed? It was telling me I’d become attached & I needed to let it breathe for a while.

Now I rarely wear it to teach. I feel I have good balance between my third eye and throat chakras. I wear it whenever I feel drawn to it. It’s an awesome piece to draw creative inspiration that helps in my main day job. I make sure it is fully secure before travelling over the tiles!

  • Chakra: Throat & 3rd Eye
  • Vibration: 9
  • Colour: Blue, grey, green, grey, yellow
  • Family: Apatite
  • Birthstone: February & March
  • Metaphysical: Balancing, creativity, healing, peace & eliminates negativity. Good for communication, clarity & intellect
  • Physical: Suppresses appetite
  • Spiritual: Manifesting, meditation, psychic development & releases blockages.

Love & light,

Seren xx

Backyard Chooks

What is a chook I hear everyone outside of Australia cry? It’s a slang/pet name for a chicken. I love chickens. They are such fascinating creatures and make amazing pets. Have you ever seen the movie Chicken Run? It is so true to life. Just sitting and observing chickens going about their daily business I often think ‘what are they up to, what have they got planned?’ Hopefully my chickens are not planning a prison break like the Aardman chickens. Why would they? My ‘girls’ are treated like the princesses they are.

I’m blessed to live on a property that allows a lot of space for a good size chicken run, or two actually. The space inside both runs is ample for what can be classed as ‘free range.’ The runs offer night time security from hungry predators, perches to hang out with their ‘flock mates’ and a quiet, secluded place for the hens to lay there daily egg. During the morning after ‘laying time’ is done the girls are literally climbing the fence to get out and out they go! This is free ranging. Off they go to roam free, run amok, have a scratch in real dirt, forage for interesting snacks and have the space to flap their wings.

Chickens are such gentle animals. They liked to be picked up and cuddled. My partner is a dedicated ‘chicken hugger.’ I often find myself talking ‘chook’ to them. You know, bock, bock noises?! Come on you talk to your dog don’t you, why not your chickens?

We have about thirty chickens and three roosters. When we first started out the backyard Chook Empire there were no men allowed. Then I fell in love with a huge orange Wyandotte rooster and the rest was history. Rambo was our first rooster and served us well. He was followed by Hef (named after Playboy’s Hugh Hefner as like my chicken Hef, he has/had lots of girlfriends) It’s easier to name the men as they stand out, the girls lost their names a long time ago, there are just too many!

The flock is made up of a combination of Wyandotte’s, Isa Browns and Chinese Bantam’s. The Isa’s were ‘rescued’ from a local egg farm. I say rescued, they are sold for $20 and we happily pay that to give them a better life. They come from cages or the barn style free-range establishments. Usually their feathers are tatty with pale, floppy combs. A week or two in the outdoors and they are like new!

I’m totally biased but our eggs are amazing!! Our regular customers agree. I can’t fill the demand some weeks. All the money we collect, $4 a dozen, goes straight back into the chicken account or the ‘girl’s money box’ as I call it. They do have a money box, it’s right there in the fridge by the eggs. The cash pays for their feed or anything else they need. Our eggs are so good. The yokes are bright yellow and the whites nice & clear. They taste so much better than shop bought eggs, even other free-range organic eggs.

With every living thing there is always an energy transfer. This energy can be positive or negative. If the animal producing the product, like eggs, is happy and content the energy going into producing that egg will be happy. If the animal is suffering or is having a crappy life this negative energy will be transferred. Then when we consume that product we are digesting that energy, good or bad. Wouldn’t you much rather be consuming energy happy energy? Yes, because happy energy makes us happy and vise versa. I am more than happy to eat my chickens eggs as I know first hand they are happy. There produce is a living statement of this.

We try & support chicken charities where we can. My partner asked for cash donations for his thirtieth birthday instead of presents. He raised over $400 for the RSPCA charity – Hen’s deserve better. http://www.hensdeservebetter.org.au Everyone can do his or her bit too. Spend a little more and buy free range, even better organic. You will notice the quality and taste is better. Also tune in and see how you feel inside after digesting the ‘happy energy.’

Love, light & chicken hugs,

Seren
