Pressing Reset

It’s been six weeks since I wrote a blog post. That’s not very Blog Hearted of me is it? It’s not been a lack of inspiration holding me back either. My notebook is full of ideas & nuggets of wisdom I wish to share. It’s just been a real struggle to get these words into something readable. But you know what I’m okay with it. I fully accept the past few weeks haven’t been focused for writing.

July was huge for me. It was a real stock take month for getting back in touch with my desires for the year. The intention I set for 2014 was to ‘simplify.’ I was doing great with it until I fell off the wagon in May & June. Slipping back into old habits of over committing & sacrificing self-love. Doing too much all at once, the usual story. July saw me pull back & regain my power.

Luckily I was able to break this habit before it escalated. At the start of July I took an interstate trip to the Gold Coast. A change of space was just what I needed. Spending nearly a week immersing myself in the yoga that I love at a teacher’s development seminar.

The schedule was very high pace. We were zipping from house, to yoga class, to lunch, to lecture, to dinner, back to lecture & finally hitting the pillow well after midnight after winding down with some social time. It was wonderful! I didn’t have to think or plan. Everything was mapped out I just had to turn up at the right time & do yoga or take notes.

It felt like a ‘reset button’ had been pushed in my head. I can safely say the intense daily Bikram practice helped a lot whilst I was away. There nothing like a tough, hot sweaty two plus hours to turn off the mind, nourish the Soul & detox the body.

Going to new places away from home allows us a break from our everyday normalities. Holiday mode is awesome! No cooking, cleaning, washing or shopping. Just 100% me time to focus on something that brings me great joy. I was very blessed this trip as my dear friend & travel companion hooked us up with amazing, generous & kind hosts who made our stay such a beautiful experience. (They even washed our sweaty yoga clothes!)

Experiencing a change of space is so important too. Everywhere in the world carries a different level of frequency. This is made up of everything within the area from the people to the landscape. Forests & mountains vibrate at a different rate to say the city. Each place offers unique gifts of varying healing energy. For me being a very ‘bush’ person to be by the sea was just what I needed. It was a new bandwidth to tune into.

I returned from my week-long trip rejuvenated & freshened up. My vibration had been upgraded I could feel it. Others could too & I attracted a wave of new clients without any conscious work. My whole outlook on life had been rebooted. It could be compared to wiping the grim from my glasses & could see clearly again.

Interstate travel – feels like you’re going somewhere when it’s on a plane!

On my return I had so much to share & my enthusiasm was booming. The new knowledge I brought into my yoga classes flowed excitedly from my heart. I started planning new workshops & event ideas. Physically my body was feeling strong & happy from all the yoga. Plus I’d been eating a whole lot of good food that was readily available in Burleigh Heads. It was sheer bliss to have my juices & smoothies made for me.

From my time away I really got back in touch with how important it is to put my needs first – self-love. It’s easy to get detached from what brings us joy. When I am nourished on a Soul level & topping my cup up with activities that bring me great happiness I am better able to do my work. Yes I have a business to run so I can’t be a total lush going on expeditions every fortnight. As I mentioned above I attracted a whole lot of new business on my return. This was true from my previous holiday in April. (Read about it here, here & here) Which equates to a positive business move I feel.

To keep the chilled out holiday mood going I stepped very slowly back into my workload. There was no need to rush straight back full tilt. I felt like taking it easy & doing just the bear minimum. That is exactly what I did. Keeping the ‘retreat’ mentality alive even when back at home.

How did I do this?

Firstly I took advantage of the fact I’m self-employed & not tied to the 9 to 5 mentality. One of the reason’s I decided to work for myself was to allow for more freedom in my daily schedule. If I wished to spend the morning or afternoon not ‘working’ I could. Usual ‘weekend’ activities could take place on a Wednesday if I wished because they could. Perks of the job.

That’s just what I did! I met my other self-employed friends for lunches, coffee or walks. One afternoon instead of wasting time driving home between teaching yoga classes I went to the coast, parked up under a tree & read. Solo dining is such bliss. I don’t even need company as I’m perfectly content alone with my thoughts (or my Kindle).

Solo dining is Soul nourishing. Organic coffee, homemade cake & my Kindle. Who could complain with that?

Just a few hours here & there at random times to the norm is just like having a mini break away.

Try it! Break your usual routine & do something different at a time you usually wouldn’t. Go for your lunch break at 2pm instead of 12:30pm & walk somewhere you’ve never been. Stop off at the beach on your way home & watch the sun set. The possibilities are endless.

Oracle Card Reading Workshop

One of my many metaphysical past times & passions is giving oracle card readings. Even if you’ve never heard of oracle cards or you might own a couple of decks yourself. Today’s post is for everybody, as I’ll tell you a bit more about oracle cards. I’ve written a previous post here about the Angel Therapy oracle cards I use. That’s how much I like oracle cards!!

If you’re not too sure what oracle cards are here is a brief run down. Oracle cards have been around for centuries & are a form of divination tool. They can assist us in tapping into the divine guidance of the universe to bring clarity to our lives. Often we get caught up in our own heads & can’t hear our inner guides talking to us. Oracle cards work with the law of attraction. Thus what we need to know is drawn to us on an energetic level through the cards we select. They are 100% safe, gentle & easy to use. Nothing sinister or ‘dark’ is involved. Just use the intention of pure love for the greater good & you’ll be fine. Oracle cards are one of my favourite ways to receive extra guidance when I need it.

There are many different types of card decks out there. I am drawn to those themed around Angels, Elemental’s & spirit guide animals. Use your own intuition to guide your choice as to which deck your select to work with. Decks can be combined too if you can’t make up your mind. Just visit your local new age shop or browse popular sites like Amazon, Book Depository or Fishpond.

Just like the decks there are a variety of ways to conduct a reading with different card spreads. Again it depends on the guidance you wish to receive as to how many cards & which layout you select. Spreads range of a single card to a full ten-card life journey spreads.

Surrendering & trusting that the messages I receive from a card reading are exactly what I need is very important. Any fear can get in the way & block the energy flow. Attracting more fear & confusion. Staying open & focused on love & pure intention is all that is needed.

However oracle cards do not give you the magic answer to all your problems. They can assist in clearing the confusion & get your creative juices flowing. More often than not once the cards are drawn I can relate to their messages instantly. How I interpret the messages is up to me though. Even when the same card is drawn over & over depending on the situation in question it may carry a different meaning. This is how you learn to use your own inner knowledge bank aka your intuition.

My interest in oracle card reading lead me to take the Advanced Angel Tarot & Oracle card reading course with Doreen Virtue & Radleigh Valentine. The course was truly fascinating. It went far deeper into interpreting the messages & symbolism in the cards. They aren’t just covered in pretty pictures; there are meanings to be had in the artwork. Tarot reading is quite complex; it would take a lot more than a short blog post to explain.

That is why I’m running a one day workshop all about oracle & tarot cards. I invite you all to join me for this exciting opportunity on Sunday 4th May 2014. When the mind takes over

Last week was one of those weeks that felt I was constantly trying to shut my monkey mind off. I can recognise now when this starts to happen & why. Then I can get it back under control quicker. It’s usually when I’m really busy work wise & I’m not getting enough personal down time. It’s a clear message that I need to slow back down & step away from anything that isn’t 100% urgent.

I’d had a pretty big week previously spending a lot of time in the hot room teaching triple yoga classes. This in itself can take its toll on all levels. My desk related work was keeping me super busy too in between classes. My mind was constantly making lists & planning. I’d crack on with a project whilst thinking about the next one on the list. There was a lot going on.

The monkey mind kicked in one morning after teaching a double yoga class. I was excited for a new 12pm class that was starting that day. It was the perfect opportunity for me to teach & practice all in one hit. ‘Do it’ my mind was telling me, ‘it makes sense, you’re here stay for class.’ I should have not listened as my practice class turned into a disaster.

I’d been at a business seminar the night before that ended pretty late to say I needed to be up at 4am. That mixed in with an erratic cat trying to sleep on my head meant I probably only had four hours sleep of which wasn’t good quality. Teaching went fine, I can snap into business mode pretty quickly. My once a fortnight coffee between classes seemed a logical move too. It wasn’t. The coffee came back to haunt me in my practice as did the lack of sleep & water.

My head had been telling me to get in the room to practice. I was so up for it I was ignoring the fatigue that was creeping in & my churning stomach from the far too milky coffee (Time to go black or not at all). I’d already sweated it out for three hours & was not hydrated enough at all. I was probably not on top of last weeks hydration either. I brought a whole new meaning to ‘one hot mess.’

The monkey in my head that told me it was a great idea to get my practice in then turned on me. It started yelling at me to ‘get out of the room, go throw up, lie down & fall asleep.’ It took every ounce of self-discipline not to give in to it. The last 15 minutes of class I spent perfecting my Savasana. It’s all I could do to lie in stillness & focus on calming my mind. Checking out of my head & into my heart space. It was very humbling indeed.

The next day I had a yoga hangover & spent the day hydrating like a mad person. It had taken a lot out of my physically & cemented how important it is to step back to observe a situation from all angles. (And stay hydrated!!) My mind may be telling me one thing but my heart has the real answer for me. I never gave my heart the chance to talk to me as the monkey was so dominant.

Monkey mind came back later that day. I was still feeling a bit knackered & had booked an Xtend Barre class after teaching. During the silent parts of the class the monkey was back! Telling me not to go to Barre & go home to rest. It nearly had me especially after my poor effort the day before at yoga. ‘Maybe I should rest, I over did it yesterday & look what happened’ I started talking myself out of it. I even received a ‘get out of jail free card’ when student after class took so long in the shower it was past closing time by the time they left. If I were to go to the Barre I would be cutting it very fine.

No I would not give into the mind this time. Stepping away from my mind I switched over to my heart (Stillness, deep breaths, eyes closed, inward focus). My heart told me I’d benefit from stretching out & I’d have fun at Barre. With a mad dash I made it. Last one to the Barre but at least they hadn’t started. (I even got my favourite spot!)

I did have a great class. My mind was trying talking me out of a happiness opportunity. The class was just what I needed to shake me out of the ‘feeling sorry for myself’ mode I was obviously in. Being surrounded by happy people with a common goal of having some fun whilst getting fit was just what I needed. The instructors’ cheerfulness was contagious & I could hear my Soul saying ‘I told you you’d have fun.’ If only I’d checked in the day before at yoga I’d probably be told to go home & hydrate or else I’d get sick.

Blessings in Chaos

This year one of my intentions was to really focus on the positive in every situation no matter how dire at the time it may seem. Blessings are everywhere.

Today, Sunday 12^th January, we are having a heat wave in Perth. Yesterday reached 45 degrees Celsius today is pretty much the same. I woke up at 6:15am dripping wet & uncomfortable. Why wasn’t the fan on & where was my other half? He was outside asleep in the hammock as he was too hot inside. No fan was due to a power cut.

No electricity on the day we really could do with the AC, fans & water. Our water is pumped from a bore that uses electricity so nothing was getting through the taps. It’s very humbling actually to be without all the things we take for granted. I know there are millions of people who live without these luxuries every day.

Before I could even think about stressing out a fellow yoga teacher was in need of a cover for her 8am class as she was sick. Missed calls & text messages greeted me when I checked the time on my phone. I was awake & if I left within the next ten minutes sans shower, a cup of tea or food (I couldn’t have the first two even if I did have time) I’d make it to the studio. I did brush my teeth with bottled water. I really could not leave the house with mouth fuzz. I could sort myself out when I got to the studio. Off I went.

The chaos continued to follow me slightly. The studio computer system played games with some payments. I noticed a few glitches in the rosters too. This was easily fixable but not something you want to be worrying about on a Sunday morning. The class went great, a good turn out on a day that was probably going to be hotter than the yoga room.

Once I returned home still no power. What could I do to occupy myself? It was so hot inside & out. We don’t have a pool & obviously the shower wasn’t working, a real challenge to stay cool. I couldn’t do any of my computer-based work I’d planned, as my laptop can’t handle my design software. Journaling, cleaning, writing notes by hand & reading kept me amused but it was so hot to just sit around I was sweating like in a Bikram class.

Another text message brought my solution. My friend was still sick & needed her afternoon class covering. I could retreat to the yoga studio & it has power! At least I can get some blogging done & business admin.

Amongst the chaos of the day what blessings did I find?

Housework. This wouldn’t have gotten done if we had had electricity. I would have put it off till later in the week & then it would have mounted up even more. Cleansing the house is so important but I do get slack when I’m busy. Using buckets of cold water from the tank to clean the bathroom & mop the floors worked fine. Dusting (which I hate) & tidying just require elbow grease no power.

Helping a friend in need. Giving is one of my favourite things to do. I’m grateful I was able to help out & the universe provided me the opportunity. Without the power cut I might have slept in & then it would have been too late to take the cover. The blessing here is that without the classes I would have been home all day melting. I was given the opportunity to get out the hot house & do something productive.

Extra income. This has been a theme for me this past two weeks. Finances have been under review for me. With a reduced schedule at the yoga studio over Christmas my income has been a little slower. Being Christmas too my outgoings were more than usual. I’ve had a few self-love projects I’ve wished to fund, investments as I see it, however they have cost money. I did worry & nearly not follow through with them. Opportunities for self-development may have been missed. I let go of the fear of not being able to afford them & the universe provided. In this case two extra yoga classes to teach that cover the cost. I gave in the above point & this is I feel is how I have been regiven to.

Even though my day was disjointed & out the ordinary the Universe was unfolding just as it should be. It always does as that is what the Universe does! This day was sent to learn from & I feel it has taught me a great deal. I didn’t fight it or get angry. I trusted solutions would present & they did. Even now over twenty hours without power I’m writing by candle light in a still roasting hot house I’m very content. No Internet, no TV & no lights are quite liberating.

It’s a reminder too to disconnect from the digital world from time to time. Rediscover the activities that don’t require electricity. Okay I cheated by using my laptop but without the distraction of being able to ‘jump online’ I’ve flown through this post writing.

Whenever the world seems to be one endless pain in the butt, sit back & look at what the Universe is trying to teach you. Look for the blessings they are all around.
