Ocean Cleansing Ritual

What a huge energetic weekend we have just experienced with the Winter (or Summer) Solstice. Some people might have felt a touch flat over the past week, getting sick & clearing out. Others more energized than ever, I certainly was! I’m feeling strong, centred & energized. However I did hit a low before the high…

The energetic build up for Solstice started for me around the 11^th & 12^th June just as Mercury went direct. When I am are about to go through a vibrational upgrade energetically I start to feel physical symptoms like lethargy, headache, pains & general grumpiness. It’s a good time to check in with planetary activity too to see if there is a connection. More often than not there is.

When these symptoms or ‘energetic flu’ show up I know it’s time to take it easy (back off & hibernate), be kind to myself & tune into my Soul for some advice. I was guided to do some extra personal work by ramping up my self-care routine. Heal, cleanse & reconnect. With the lessons I learned & took action on from my Mercury Retrograde theme I needed a time out to process.

One self-care routine I’d like to share with you all today is my Ocean Cleansing Ritual.

You can’t beat the ocean energy

Salt water is one of the best ways to assist in cleansing & healing your body. You don’t have to be fully submerged either, just standing in the shallows works just as well. Being bare foot in contact with the earth is very grounding, especially if you have been feeling detached from your bodies. Digging your feet into the wet sand connects you back with Mother Nature & the earth’s vibration.

Here’s what I like to do:

Set my intention: Before connecting with the ocean I decide what it is I’d like to achieve from the ritual. It could be to cleanse away any dense energy/emotions that no longer serve or release past situations that are holding me back or simply to feel grounded & at one.

Say an affirmation: Once you have set your intention put it into an affirmation. For example “Thank you divine Mother Earth & the cleansing ocean to wash away & heal any old stale energy from my being that no longer serves me.” Say your affirmation out loud or in your mind as you step into the sea. Repeat your affirmation as many times as you wish during your ceremony.

Breathe: Take long slow deep belly breaths exhaling with noise for the same, if not longer time. I like to inhale as the water rushes forward, then exhales as the wave retreats. I visualize the water & the breath carrying what I no longer need. Trusting what is let go of is being sent to a better place for recycling by the earth spirits.

Connect: This is the perfect time to tune in with your Soul. Still your mind, disconnect from the chatter & just be. Sink into your heart space, connect, ask questions & listen for guidance.

Move: Movement is a great way to help shift stagnant energy. If your not game enough to take a swim splash around in the water with your feet. Walk up & down the beach on the waters edge. Or back & forth playing chase with the waves.

Take your time: Spend as long as you need during this process. Allow your intuition to guide you as to how long you spend in your cleansing ritual. If you feel drawn sit a while on a rock. You’ll know when the time is right to finish up. For me it’s a sense of lightness, grounding & joy.

Find a good rock & sit a while with you feet buried in the sand

Gratitude: Once your sacred time is coming to a close give thanks to Mother Earth & all beings of the light that have assisted you in your cleansing process. You may wish to bring you hands into prayer position or bow in acknowledgement for the healing you have received. A simple whispered ‘thank you’ is enough too.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my Ocean Cleansing Ritual. Don’t worry if you live nowhere near the coast. Kicking back with a salt-water foot soak or fully relaxing Epsom salt bath is just as good.

Marvelous May

Another fast paced month has just whizzed by. May has been a great month for teaching us to slow down on this high-speed ride. I found March & April to have such intense energy by the time May came around I was well & truly done.

With the divine timing of the universe (as usual) I was fully able to take some time out once May rolled around. Even my Aries horoscope from the brilliant Damian Rocks bore the theme of “Contemplate & Retreat.” I headed back to the East coast of Australia for my second working holiday of the year. (Blooming blessed I know, thank you, thank you!)

Boy did I need a change of space to just ‘be.’ Exhaling deeply as I settled into my friend’s house I was sitting & being in gratitude for the opportunity to do so. A beautiful card awaited me, my favourite tea & sourdough bread to make me feel at home.

The pace slowed down as I fell back into my East coast routine of sleeping in late & getting the rest I needed. Eating when I was actually hungry instead of ‘if I don’t eat now I won’t be eating for six hours’ mentality. Walking to work. Observing the changes & strength of my Eastern yoga students & being so proud of each one of them.

May hasn’t been without it challenges. Right on cue Mercury went retrograde nineteen days in. Old dirt arose to the surface, issues I’d run away from showed up (of course!), themes were made & healing began. You can read about my intentions in this post.

In true Mercury style technology had major meltdowns. For someone who does rely on her laptop & Internet connection for work it tested me to my fullest. I took note of the signs. “Okay I have no phone signal or Internet whilst the tower is down for an upgrade. My mac & hard drives are doing the funky chicken so I might as well go walk on the beach.”

Tuning into the universal energy I really could feel it was time to just take it easy. I was blessed with some good distractions to get me away from my desk.

Another yoga teacher visited me that gave me the chance to try my hand at mentoring properly, the way I’d been taught over the past ten months. It was an enriching & rewarding experience. Best of all I was able to practice lots of yoga! Yes I know, doesn’t being a yoga teacher mean you do loads of yoga? Not the style I teach which is dialogue driven so practice is done outside of teaching class. With the combination of quiet classes & a guest teacher to help out I was in yoga heaven once more. My body rejoiced, as did my Soul.

Playing tour guide too (one of my favourite hobbies) was a highlight of my guest visit. Being able to share my cherished local hot spots was bliss whilst eating a lot of homemade Tilba cakes.

A project I’ve wanted to get stuck into for a while came into fruition. The therapy room at the yoga studio that I use for Reiki when I’m here was in desperate need of a makeover. What started as a ‘soft furnishings’ project, turned into a full paint job & more. With the help of my fabulous community we whipped the space into shape. I can’t stop going in there & looking at it, the result is amazing.

Despite having a beautiful new space to practice out of Reiki bookings weren’t happening. This didn’t faze me at all. I knew it was because I needed to give back to myself, take time for me & be alone. Holding space in the yoga room for twelve classes filled my in person service quota nicely.

In saying that distance healing & intuitive reading were booming! Even though I was still holding space energetically I could schedule the sessions at my leisure & even conduct them in my pajamas sat on the bed. Typing up the reports is very rewarding for me as writing is my passion. I can take my time over them as everything is noted down during the session. Hence I can come back to it at a later point if needed.

The final week in May though was huge. The Saturn opposition threw a massive twist on things. I can only describe it akin to walking through glue. Friday 21^st was excellent I was so pumped. By Sunday 22^nd I was flat as: feeling foggy, lethargic, and headachy with no motivation. My body hurt & was stiff. A good sign of uncertainty & hold up for a while.

This is where ‘contemplation’ came in. It was time to review, assess & look back on things.

Was I heading in the right direction?
Is my life on purpose?
Had I been fulfilling my intentions for Mercury Retrograde?
What seeds have I planted for later in the year?

I made sure I’d noted down all my thoughts & ideas.

Slowly as the denser energy lifted the light started to shine brighter. Clients started booking in, Reiki training enquiries were going off & my schedule started filling up into October already!

To finish off the month I did go on retreat. A proper one away from home just for a day at the stunning Mystery Bay. Surrounded by other healers & holistic practitioners I discovered breathwork, tried toning, walked silently as a group to the ocean (where half the group jumped in but not me too cold) & finished with a most fun ecstatic dance session!

What do you get when you put a bunch of sober spirited people together in a room amped up on chocolate? – The wildest sets of dance moves ever!

A perfect day of just ‘being’ & sharing at one with each other. I had many synchronicities occur & messages to follow up on. Thank you to everyone for sharing your divine energy, holding space & loving unconditionally.

Finding My Theme

Who has been feeling a bit confused & uncertain over the past two weeks? There has been a lot of self-questioning since the end of April start of May. This is totally normal as we were in the pre-shadow phase of Mercury Retrograde, which turned direct on the 19^th May. Mercury Retrograde is one the strongest & most influential planetary experiences. This period can really assist us with our spiritual development & growth.

Between the 4^th & 18^th May was the pre-shadow period that prepares us for what we need to work on during the full Retrograde phase from now till the 10^th June. Look back over the pre-shadow period & take note of what challenged you. Especially old behavioral patterns, people/relationships or recurring situations. The energy will be strong around these issues & will be playing on your mind. This will be the basis for your ‘personal theme.’

Personal themes are centered on issues you haven’t been dealing with. You won’t move on & heal until you have worked through them. Personal themes are awesome to get us back on track & in flow with our Soul. When we are out of flow that is when life becomes hard, not enjoyable & confusing. Using Mercury Retrograde, as a springboard is an excellent way to help you finally let go & excel.

The past three Mercury Retrogrades have fallen on the time I have been away from home in the Eastern States. No coincidence there as being away from home is the best way for me to get perspective on what needs to be addressed. Stepping away from situations I am in too close thus allowing me the space to evaluate them properly from afar.

Finding my theme this cycle has been relatively straightforward. There are a few key issues I need to get a handle on that have been weighing me down for months.

Emotional reactions – I am super passionate about everything I do & I will defend what I love to the core. This is awesome but it can lead to me flying off the handle at times & getting into unnecessary arguments that I later have to rectify. These emotional reactions cause me pain, sometimes on a physical level. It’s not good to manifest stiff necks, sore throats or migraines.

Recognizing my triggers – There are certain people & situations that get my back right up causing me to fall easily into the ‘victim mentality’. I have acknowledged they are here to do that for me & are showing me exactly what I need to learn within myself. This I am grateful for. However I must learn this lesson on how not to overreact when I am challenged. (Or else I’m going to keep going round & around until I do, now is the time.)

My action plan moving forward = Breathe, say nothing immediately, be quiet & still so I can step back into my Soul space to assess from a heart level. Honouring my integrity & being in my own power without having my peace stolen. In doing so I will set myself free from the pain & sadness I cause myself after an emotional outburst.

The next part of my theme ties in with emotional reactions.

Taking things too personally. Being someone who is here to be of Divine service I naturally feel the pull to do the best I can for people. When I receive negative feedback for my efforts it makes me sad, I feel like a failure & question my abilities.

When I’m challenged externally it filters through internally. My crippling self-doubt that has followed me around my whole life kicks in. I go over & over the situation trying to figure out a way to improve so I can be better next time. During April I was experiencing this a lot. It physically showed up in bouts of anxiety that I haven’t had since I was young.

Time to stop this! I cannot & shouldn’t have to please everybody. All the work I do is subjective. Some people will love it & others just won’t get it. That is fine. It’s up to the individuals I work with to help themselves, it’s not my job to fix them. I must learn to accept this. Drop it, don’t carry it around & move on. Staying centered in a place of love when the negative or actually ‘perceived’ negative feedback rolls. Again it’s subjective. What I see as a negative may not be for the person on the giving side.

Remember that every situation has an equal & opposite. When the resistance shows up see it as a positive. It means you’re flying forward at a great pace in the right direction. The resistance you see as negative is showing up to let you know you’re doing great & it’s simply the natural equal pull backwards.

Finally I have been feeling uncertain as to how to take my career to the next level. My main reason for heading down the self-employment route was for ‘freedom’ & more control over my schedule. There have been some major shifts & changes in my work sphere this year. Some are a good fit others are not so much. (More positive resistance!)

I’m feeling it’s time for an overhaul, an audit of what’s working & what’s not. Perhaps it’s time to streamline my offering & focus in on the specifics to utilize my talents. Taking a good look at where my passions lie & making more room for them in order to bring me more joy.

The New Moon on Monday as well as Mercury Retrograde offers us all a chance to let go of the old & forge a new path. I’m feeling once I work through my main Mercury theme it will become clear what I need to do so I can be doing even more of what I love.

In the moment, a walk in my thoughts

Writing brings me such joy. It’s my outlet for creative expression as well as a way of processing & understanding what is going on in my life. Two years ago I was writing blog posts at least four days a week, now I struggle to get one out a month. Acknowledged I need to make more time for my passions. However as I’ve learned with creative pursuits sometimes it’s darn tricky to get the juices flowing. Especially on the days I have so much time to write the words just don’t come.

This happened to me on Friday night. A whole evening to myself & I had writers block. I’d started a post earlier in the week but on reading back the first draft it all felt wrong. It was struggle town to edit & remold what I’d started. Stepping away from the computer keyboard I hit the couch & just lay there reading.

That’s when the magic started to happen. I grabbed my notebook & pen & just started to write, freely & intuitively. Here’s the result a jumble, mismatch of creativity, simple, raw & ‘different.’ Truly being in the moment & tuning into my awareness. Could this be a new way of writing? Or an experiment in surrendering, letting go & seeing what happens…

A walk in my thoughts

Rain falling on the tin roof. Soothing pitter-patter of nature drop by drop.

The smell of patchouli incense mixed with the healthful food cooking in the oven.

Sipping sparkling water.

Easing a sore shoulder with a warming wheat pack.

Reviewing the day – smile – gratitude.

A solo yoga class all by myself, for myself. Pleasure, joy & stillness.

Connecting with like-minded people. Time with friends.

Parcel in the post a welcome surprise.

The warm glow of the salt lamp.

Looking for a deep & meaningful angle to write about. Overthinking – the curse of the creative mind. Grabbing a notebook & letting it flow. Freely with ease.

More automatic writing. Channeling messages in words.

{Idea sparked} Excitement.

Inspiration, new ideas, where to go & what to do next with it.

Learning to sit still & do nothing – stillness brings inner knowing outward.

Read a book, leaf through a magazine. Being human, not constantly searching but still experiencing.

Hot tea & cold chocolate.

Crisp clean sheet & a deep sinking pillow. Rest.

There it is, a spew of words on a page (Grammar check was having a ball!). A record of being fully present in the moment. This post was quick, to the point & hardly needed any editing. I’m not sure what this means completely but I have a few ideas of where to go from here.
