Workshop After-Care

Many of us on the self-development & spiritual growth path just love to attend (or host) workshops. These can be very enriching & empowering experiences. A lot can shift in just a few short hours. A day or two in linear time can feel much longer when you’ve been in an energy bubble.

Being cocooned in a safe, nurturing environment is so magical. Especially if you’ve felt alone, unsupported & have no one who shares your passion for all this woo woo stuff. Spending time with like-minded people shows you’re not going bonkers. (Everyone else are the bonkers one’s haha!) You’ve expanded & accelerated in ways that are beyond what the human mind can comprehend.

Leaving such a sacred space & re-entering the ‘real world’ can be a bit of a culture shock. Don’t be sacred! I’m here today to help you with the integration process.

For me personally I find it beneficial to follow some simple steps for a few days after a workshop. This assists to gently ease myself into the new energy. Especially if I have been teaching/facilitating the workshop I can feel very alive & uplifted afterwards but if I’m not careful I can crash quickly. I still receive an upgrade from hosting & need just as much, if not more, after care.

The Healing Hangover.

A few months ago I wrote on my Seren FB page about the term I love to use ‘The Healing Hangover.’ It’s how I describe the ‘detox’ symptoms you may experience after an energy healing or workshop. Okay, it’s uncomfortable but I welcome the experience as its confirmation the work is happening.

Contraction before the expansion.

Just like with an alcohol induced hangover the day after a workshop you may wake up feeling:

Fuzzy
Dehydrated
Headache
Tired
Sore muscles
Nauseous

Some or all may or may not be present. The energy truck has run you down & reversed back over you. (Do trust it’s all good, things are shifting & clearing) You may feel nothing at all, again this is FINE! Everybody is different. If you’re getting an easy ride that’s awesome.

The healing effects of a workshop/healing session carry on for some days afterward. Our Chakras are balanced, old emotions may have been released & all our four bodies have had a good shake up. Just like any detox the physical body can bear the brunt.

What to do:

Take it easy honey – I advise clients to take it easy on themselves over the days following a workshop/session. If you can take the day off (any excuse to skip out of a Monday!) then that is wonderful. If that’s impossible you can still do your best not to push too hard.

Get a good night sleep.
Clear your schedule as much as you can.
Try not to plan any big events or meetings.
Avoid negative environments.
Be outside in natural daylight.
Do gentle exercise – yoga, walking, Qi Gong/Tai Chi or swimming.
Meditate – using amethyst the master healer is perfect.
Read, watch a movie or have a massage.
Breathe – deeply & slowly.

Hydrate – Water is super important, especially if you are feeling lethargic & have a headache. Water is a transmitter that flushes out the physical body by getting rid of toxins. It also moves energy clearing out the old, stale stuff to make room for the new. The more you drink the better you will feel. Sip on good quality filtered water throughout the day.

I personally would recommend avoiding alcohol. Obviously it will dehydrate you but it’s effects are amplified. You may find yourself smashed quicker than usual & having a full on hangover the next day.

Ideally two to three litres. Adding a squeeze of fresh citrus fruit is amazing (& less boring!) or add a few drops doTERRA essential oils – lime, lemon or grapefruit are awesome. My favourite is ice-cold coconut water packed full of replenishing electrolytes.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Salt baths – Taking a relaxing bath in Epsom salts is a great way to unwind & get some minerals into your system. If you live by the ocean even better, go for a swim in the sea!

Eat well – Your body will thank you for some good clean food. High vibrational food straight from the earth will help you literally digest some new energy to keep you topped up. Eat as clean as you can. Vegetables, salad & organic cold pressed juices are brilliant choices. I don’t tend to feel hungry during energy sessions but it hits the next day, I’m starving. Make sure you’ve stocked up on good quality fresh food so you’re not reaching for the easy crap.

Be aware of heightened sensitivity – Again don’t freak out but just be prepared that you could be a little extra sensitive. That is why I suggest you don’t have a huge day planned. Situations or people that usually don’t bother you suddenly might. Deep conscious breathing works a treat. When challenged or the emotions arise, just breathe.

Do take the time following a workshop to just be. Honour your Soul by gently easing yourself back into the world.

Sit quietly & just be x

It doesn’t have to stop there. Keep on being kind to yourself everyday. This will maintain the bubble of love feeling you felt during the workshop, and then it will become the norm. Everyday will feel like you’re on retreat.

It’s okay when plans change

Hello there dearest readers. I’m sure by the time this post gets ‘pressed’ it will be way out of my usual posting schedule. Over the past year I’ve been pretty good at showing up on time Tuesday & Thursday every week. Consistency is key to building an online presence, making it easy for those who follow to know when to check in. It also assists in building relationships. But you know what sometimes things just don’t happen the way you planned all the time. That is why I’m posting on a Wednesday!

I’m currently working my way through an amazing online course ‘Bright Eyed & Blog Hearted’ with the super coach extraordinaire Rachel McDonald. I’m learning so much about blogging & running an online business it’s kind of ironic I simply can not get online to implement my course work right now. This site is a visual ‘mess’ (to me anyway!). I’m itching to get to know what I can do now I’m ‘self-hosted’ in WordPress, think custom themes, plugins, spam filters, no adverts!

Over the weekend I struggled to get a post together for today. It’s OKAY though! I’m fine with the way plans & scheduling can change quickly at the moment. I can fully accept that sometimes other aspects of life need to be dealt with first. The ‘me’ of three years ago would have been stressing & straining. Staying up late to bang out ‘something’ to post the next day. The inner control freak would have been beating herself up, feeling like I was letting my readers down by not delivering. Sometimes that approach can create a surprisingly good post. That wasn’t an option this time.

For me now though I don’t want my posts to be forced, ‘mend & make do’ style. It’s not who I am. Everything I post I wish to be authentic, from my heart with meaning & resonance. Not nobbled together just because I need something up on the blog.

That is why part 3 of my Indian Pacific adventure is not up online this week. It’s not even close to being ready. Sure this has upset the flow of a three part series. I could have spent time right now putting that together instead of this post for consistency value. It just didn’t feel right. I felt I needed to let you all know I’m not super women & things do change. And it’s okay to roll with these changes. Especially this past two weeks, things are moving, changing & shifting at an accelerated rate.

Why haven’t I had time to blog?
Since returning from my trip to Adelaide my business has sky rocketed. Everything is the result of my solid efforts, hard work, beliefs & determination. I had three presenting events last week, in person healing sessions, marketing, design work & my usual (but reduced) yoga classes to teach. Hosting a workshop at my house meant cleaning, tidying & preparation needed to be made time for. I simply could not fit in blog writing. A lot of other important paid jobs have been put aside too to this week which is filling up fast as well. It’s fantastic, just where I want to be. I’m so grateful everything is taking off & heading in the direction I wished to manifest. It just means no time for writing.

Guidance
On Monday in my true style I asked my Angels for some quick advice as to my current situation by pulling an Angel Feather oracle card on a phone app I have. I was looking for reassurance that everything, all this plan switching & swapping, was all in my best interests. Here’s what came up:

BUSINESS GROWTH. Enough said. It’s exactly what I had intuited for myself & my mentor had told me so as well. Now my Angels had confirmed my full packed schedule is because my business is growing.

Where is this all leading?
My point here is that it is okay when your planned schedule changes. Just re-prioritize, write lists of what must be dealt with first & cross them of as you go. I have fully trusted the plan changes I’ve had this past fortnight are fully in my best interests. Despite having a major bought of overwhelm getting ready for my speaking commitments (whole new post of that coming soon, eventually in the future!) everything worked out, better than I could have hoped.

How did I deal with all this change?
Just by staying present in that exact moment & dealing with what needed to be done then & there. Not worrying or focusing on what I hadn’t achieved or what was waiting for me later on. All this without running myself into the ground or missing out on all important down time & self-love. Okay I haven’t blogged but writing could still be classed as ‘work.’ Taking the afternoons off after both presentations to sit & chat with a friends for ‘hours’ served me so much better that rushing home to work on my next event.

My message is:
Its okay when plans have to change, let it be, it is what it is right now. Presence is everything. Breathe, smile, relax, give gratitude & surrender to the flow life is.

The Soul only knows perfection

This quote popped up on FB the other day. I love it & it resonates a lot with a challenge I’ve been facing of late. A challenge I am hoping to close the loop on for good.

There is a difference, a huge one, between intentionally hurting somebodies feelings & speaking your truth from pure intent, which is then interpreted differently. In others words the other person gets the hump with you.

I’m finding the deeper I get into remembering where I came from & why I’m here this lifetime (My Soul contract) the more I am being misinterpreted. I know my words are coming from my heart driven by my Soul. It shows me I am progressing & doing everything just right in my life that I feel comfortable speaking my truth. However this usually involves saying things others may see as weird or they miss the point & get offended.

That is just fine. I can recognise now when my words are not understood that the recipient is not ready to hear them or their frequency is tuned to a different station. I’m not saying I’m better than those around me or more awake. I’m saying I fully recognise we are all on different stages of our journey.

When someone gets hurt by my actions I do feel hurt too, especially when I didn’t mean to bring pain. I am however not responsible for others reactions to my actions & vice versa. This is where Doreen’s quote comes in handy.

At the core of who we are, the Soul, we are one. The Soul, the part of us that goes home after we leave our physical body, only knows purity & perfection. When we are in our physical human form we are split in duality between our Soul & human emotions in our head. (Some call this the ego) It is our head that tries to mentally process what goes on around us & emotions kick in.

Our Soul cannot get hurt or offended. If you ever hear someone say ‘you’ve offended my Soul’ this I believe is untrue. You’ve offended their ego. Soul only knows love. It is pure & all knowing. In stillness it will tell you all you need to know honestly & openly. You must quite the mind first in order to hear it.

If my ego gets hurt for what ever reason or others get offended/hurt by something I’ve said I must remember to send them love. It happened just last week. I had caused offense by something I wrote right here on my blog. There was no confrontation or conversation had, I was totally clueless as to why a certain person was suddenly being off with me. Once I figured out the issue I was sorry the person involved had taken my words the wrong way. I never meant to offend or hurt anyone. It was my personal take on a situation & I am the only one responsible for my reaction, which was to write about it.

The offended person came into my radar in a professional situation. All I could do was send them love & compassion. I had a job to do & I could not let ‘personal crap’ get in the way. They were hating on me it was clear (cold shoulder, scowling & snappy words) but I must never hate back, even if my ego was bruised by this, my Soul was telling me it was okay. They are hurting & they need love, it was my job to send it out. Hopefully once the other person is ready to sink into their heart, feel the love, see the pure intention & step back they will ease their own pain.

Just remember at our core there is only love & oneness. Nothing can hurt you deep in the centre. It hurts on the surface but its only skin deep. The more love we give the more will come back around. We are LOVE.

Blessings in Chaos

This year one of my intentions was to really focus on the positive in every situation no matter how dire at the time it may seem. Blessings are everywhere.

Today, Sunday 12^th January, we are having a heat wave in Perth. Yesterday reached 45 degrees Celsius today is pretty much the same. I woke up at 6:15am dripping wet & uncomfortable. Why wasn’t the fan on & where was my other half? He was outside asleep in the hammock as he was too hot inside. No fan was due to a power cut.

No electricity on the day we really could do with the AC, fans & water. Our water is pumped from a bore that uses electricity so nothing was getting through the taps. It’s very humbling actually to be without all the things we take for granted. I know there are millions of people who live without these luxuries every day.

Before I could even think about stressing out a fellow yoga teacher was in need of a cover for her 8am class as she was sick. Missed calls & text messages greeted me when I checked the time on my phone. I was awake & if I left within the next ten minutes sans shower, a cup of tea or food (I couldn’t have the first two even if I did have time) I’d make it to the studio. I did brush my teeth with bottled water. I really could not leave the house with mouth fuzz. I could sort myself out when I got to the studio. Off I went.

The chaos continued to follow me slightly. The studio computer system played games with some payments. I noticed a few glitches in the rosters too. This was easily fixable but not something you want to be worrying about on a Sunday morning. The class went great, a good turn out on a day that was probably going to be hotter than the yoga room.

Once I returned home still no power. What could I do to occupy myself? It was so hot inside & out. We don’t have a pool & obviously the shower wasn’t working, a real challenge to stay cool. I couldn’t do any of my computer-based work I’d planned, as my laptop can’t handle my design software. Journaling, cleaning, writing notes by hand & reading kept me amused but it was so hot to just sit around I was sweating like in a Bikram class.

Another text message brought my solution. My friend was still sick & needed her afternoon class covering. I could retreat to the yoga studio & it has power! At least I can get some blogging done & business admin.

Amongst the chaos of the day what blessings did I find?

Housework. This wouldn’t have gotten done if we had had electricity. I would have put it off till later in the week & then it would have mounted up even more. Cleansing the house is so important but I do get slack when I’m busy. Using buckets of cold water from the tank to clean the bathroom & mop the floors worked fine. Dusting (which I hate) & tidying just require elbow grease no power.

Helping a friend in need. Giving is one of my favourite things to do. I’m grateful I was able to help out & the universe provided me the opportunity. Without the power cut I might have slept in & then it would have been too late to take the cover. The blessing here is that without the classes I would have been home all day melting. I was given the opportunity to get out the hot house & do something productive.

Extra income. This has been a theme for me this past two weeks. Finances have been under review for me. With a reduced schedule at the yoga studio over Christmas my income has been a little slower. Being Christmas too my outgoings were more than usual. I’ve had a few self-love projects I’ve wished to fund, investments as I see it, however they have cost money. I did worry & nearly not follow through with them. Opportunities for self-development may have been missed. I let go of the fear of not being able to afford them & the universe provided. In this case two extra yoga classes to teach that cover the cost. I gave in the above point & this is I feel is how I have been regiven to.

Even though my day was disjointed & out the ordinary the Universe was unfolding just as it should be. It always does as that is what the Universe does! This day was sent to learn from & I feel it has taught me a great deal. I didn’t fight it or get angry. I trusted solutions would present & they did. Even now over twenty hours without power I’m writing by candle light in a still roasting hot house I’m very content. No Internet, no TV & no lights are quite liberating.

It’s a reminder too to disconnect from the digital world from time to time. Rediscover the activities that don’t require electricity. Okay I cheated by using my laptop but without the distraction of being able to ‘jump online’ I’ve flown through this post writing.

Whenever the world seems to be one endless pain in the butt, sit back & look at what the Universe is trying to teach you. Look for the blessings they are all around.
